Karen Menehan

Karen Menehan was born and raised in Santa Cruz, California. As a young adult, she lived in South Lake Tahoe and Sacramento before returning to her hometown in the mid 1990s. She is dedicated to being a positive force for the Santa Cruz community through volunteering and now as support staff for Housing Santa Cruz County.

Karen holds an associate’s degree in liberal arts from Cabrillo College and a bachelor’s in government/journalism from Cal State University, Sacramento. She worked as a journalist and editor for 25 years, leading a health care publication to national awards. She has reported for the Mid-County Post newspaper, Imagine Magazine and MASSAGE Magazine, among other publications.

Most recently, Karen held the position of Office & Campaign Manager for the Santa Cruz County Democratic Party, for which she coordinated volunteer campaigns, managed social media and provided information to the general public. Organizations she has volunteered for include Santa Cruz Indivisible, Save Our Shores, Defense of Democracy, the Global Wellness Institute and the City of Santa Cruz.

Karen spends her free time walking in the redwoods, hanging out with family and friends, and collaging.
